3 Ways Disney+ Is Killing It On Facebook

Let’s face it: in 2020, we’re all more likely to hit up a brand’s social media page when we’re looking for reviews, feedback and a place to vent about customer service issues. Social media has become the hub of all activity– brand related or not– so a brand’s presence on platforms like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook is important if they want to grab the attention of their potential customers.

1. Their Thought Provoking Captions 🤔

There’s nothing we like talking about more than ourselves, and engagement driven questions are a great way to get people talking while still keeping the focus on your content. Engagement driven questions are highly encouraged to entice users to share and comment on posts. According to “5 Social Media Best Practices” by Sprout Social, engagement driven questions are encouraged in post captions. Disney+ does a good job of this, often including a question or asking for the experience or opinions of fans at the end of the captions for posts about their shows. This often plays to people’s nostalgia when it’s in reference to an older property of Disney’s and gets a high level of engagement through responses and tagging. For example, Disney+ every week Disney will post a schedule of their weekly programming and ask a question like “what will you be watching this weekend?” to get people excited about the things they have available for stream while also encouraging people who maybe wouldn’t have usually commented to speak up!

2. Their Nostalgia Inducing Videos 🤩

Everyone can get behind a good compilation video or a funny clip from their favorite classic Disney movies, and Disney+ knows this better than anyone. Another thing Disney+ does well is posting videos often on their Facebook, which multiple sources affirm is one of the most engaging types of content that can be posted on a brand’s social media page. According to “The Ultimate Social Media Best Practices 2019” by Bonfire Marketing, posting videos is a good way to increase engagement on posts. When a video is posted vs. a picture, engagement increases by 58%. Disney+ does a good job of diversifying the content they upload and posting clips of their shows/movies and their engagement does increase on posts that are in video form (two exceptions are a post that was made too close to a previous post on the same topic and one of their less popular shows that generally gets lower engagement). Disney+ also posts clips from other shows referencing their properties, such as a compilation of Disney references on the Simpsons, which got a lot of positive reactions from their users.

3. All Their Swoon Worthy Photos! 🥰

This is not to say that a good photo won’t bring in the clicks as well, despite Sprout Socials finding that photos tend to get lower engagement. According to “Facebook Marketing in 2020” by Hootsuite, making photo posts is highly recommended to brands that have a high visual appeal. Disney+ definitely plays to this with their Facebook posts being high quality stills and posters for their shows. Many of these photo posts receive high levels of engagement from Disney fans. An example of this are the various posters that Disney+ uploads to their page to showcase the shows and movies available for streaming. These always have high engagement due to the visual appeal and the excitement of fans discussing their favorite shows or excitement for a new one that Disney is promoting.

What do you think?

Disney+’s Facebook strategy has been really instrumental in building their online presence and hyping up the new streaming platform. Following these three posting habits will definitely work wonders for any brand trying to Bop to the Top of the social media game! Do you have any other Facebook marketing tips?
